New York Photo Festival Journal

Showcasing the future of contemporary photography in print.

Opportunity

During my tenure as the assistant director of the New York Photo Festival, we put on a myriad of photography exhibitions and showcased the work of exciting emerging photographers. For those that couldn’t make it to DUMBO, Brooklyn to catch our events, we needed to do something more.

Role

As editor and creative director, I lead the charge in publishing the NYPH Journal. (Yes, you’re reading that correctly. The “PH” in the festival’s unconventional acronym is a nod to the New York Photo Festival’s parent company, the art book publisher, powerHouse Books.)

Outcome

Leveraging our publishing resources and distribution channels, we created a print publication to showcase the work we championed to a wider audience.

The NYPH Journal employed inventive layouts and curious interviews with curators and tastemakers like Martin Parr, Roger Ballen, Lesley A. Martin, and Larry Fink. It highlighted the best new photographic work from around the globe and drew attention to the trends that captivated the medium at its current point in time.
